russia's demographic problem is well known (it dropped by 3% in the past 10 years). but now chechnya comes to add to it: because of the casualties with the ongoing war with russia, in chechnya, women outnumber men by 10%. so what does the 29 year acting prime minister and renowned human rights violator ramsan kadyrov come up with to solve the problem? polygamy.
even though it's illegal under russian law, under sharia law if a man can, he must have four wives.
i wonder why it is that a bunch of lunatics have gas and oil resources...there must be a causal effect

While I agree with you about these people being lunatics I have to comment that I find polygamy to be the least offensive part of islamic law (or mormonism btw). From my standpoint, as long as the involved parties' rights are respected (like the right to divorce, the right to child support etc.) then I don't see why the law should dictate that the contract of marriage must be exclusive. In what concerns the state I see no fundamental difference between monogamy and polygamy. Of course the law should be very strict against abusive people but that does not depend on polygamy being illegal.
